The Face of Blankness

This morning, the tide is hidden. Only its call is heard from out a smear of pastel white. In the face of this blankness, desire attempts to burn off the marine layer. Still, the smell of salt and sea linger and the curve of the earth (only the ocean can reveal) is never silent.

Photograph by me! Last summer on the coast.

What a beautifully evocative piece. Your words paint a scene that is both tranquil and deeply reflective, allowing the reader to experience the ocean through more than sight alone. I especially love the contrast between the hidden tide and its unmistakable presence through sound, scent, and feeling.
