What Isn’t True

Don’t sit and wonder why it’s gone 

We did everything that’s wrong  

Shades of black and white turn to color 

Details of the reasons why we suffer  

We don’t have to hold each other close

But everything inside has been smothered

I’d love to hear it. …….Perhaps (and this is just a thought) there is no complete healing. We are meant to wear our scars.  (Ironic for me to say. I have keloid). Healing is found in how we live with pain instead of how we cover it up or attempt to banish it from our lives.

      So you know the feeling. I have one large one on my chin from an old surgery. So, one of mine is part of my face. But I live and love with it.

        Yes, I do. Mine cover my arms from a suicide attempt in my twenties. I often count them to remind myself that even trying 187 times did not work. Obviously I have a reason to be here. That alone was enough to stop trying.

I’m working on more stuff, but it takes time to compose, perform and record these things! Thanks so much.     this poem/song resonates so much for me, especially the line, “Healing is found in how we live with pain.” Thank you for that. It is what I have been doing in writing–first, my childhood memoir, Chosen, about growing up in the Caribbean. And now, in my second, the teenage years and marriage in England. My daughter has asked me many time “Why” and I say, because it helps me understand.

      Thanks Jane. I’m not a gifted speaker. My brain works better with images and sounds. So, there is a part of all of us that can comprehend things that lie outside what “utterances” can explain, a way to “abstract” meaning.

    Healing is found in how we live with pain….. so true. Looking in the window of someone else’s life gives us the view they want us to see. We all have pain. It destroys some, yet strengthens others. As hard as it is to live, it is also hard to see someone struggle through it. Our mindset makes the difference.
